Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU)

A guide for adding an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) - a second, smaller home (up to 800 sq ft) on a residential lot. Bend requires only one permit for an ADU: a single building permit application satisfies both Planning and Building review, with no separate land use application. The City also offers free pre-approved ADU plans that can speed up review. Properties in a historic district or the Waterway Overlay Zone may need additional planning review.
